Made in Japan in the 1960's, this is a very fun and very quirky old thing that was likely sold to the Japanese domestic market. Loaded with a very nice sounding vintage single coil run through the original on-board solid state amp and a 3" speaker, it sounds great both plugged in or on it's own.
The neck on this one was replaced with a Japanese made Fernandes BSV series neck that fits snug in the pocket and intonates well (as the BSV series were 610mm scale length, much like the Maier). The Fernanes neck is significantly higher quality than the original one would have been so it's definitely an upgrade to playability.
The trem system is a bit wobbly but otherwise it plays well as it sits, the neck is straight with an adjustable truss and the frets have plenty of life.
